Joel Leeman

Executive producer and strategist

Joel Leeman is the Founder and Executive Producer of Shrug Content, as well as the host of Connection Request, a podcast about career journeys.

Prior to starting Shrug Content, Joel built and led the Financial Media team at the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), creating shows and limited series for the Group’s flagship brands including London Stock Exchange, FTSE Russell and Refinitiv.

Previously, Joel led the Brand Content team at Refinitiv and founded its Data Insights Team at the request of the firm’s CEO, bringing together a cross-functional group of analysts, strategists, producers and data experts, forming a data newsroom to insert the brand into global business conversations and news.

Joel started his career at Thomson Reuters in social media strategy and digital content, eventually leading the firm’s global corporate website, blog and social channels with a reach of more than one million professionals.

Colleagues and partners have generously called Joel “a rare collaborative spirit,” someone who “pushes creative boundaries,” and “the most open and explorative person I work with.”

He is a frequent speaker and mentor on digital and social, and works with several nonprofits including the Hennepin Theatre Trust’s board of directors.

Joel is also a freelance musician, playing with a jazz band in Minneapolis and occasionally sitting in as a studio musician on friends’ recording projects.
